How many years of dance? 9 years
How many hours do you dance a week? 15
Favorite style of dance and why? I love performing and watching lyrical dance. I really enjoy the fluid movements and emotional aspect of the dance.
What is your favorite dance you have performed? I Surrender (lyrical)
What is your favorite dance skill to perform? Turns and emotion
Who inspires you? I’m inspired by my family and people who support me.
If you could work with any choreographer, who would it be and why? Travis Wall – because I love his style, and it would be challenging so I would grow as a dancer.
My favorite part of the dance year is… competing and being on stage.
What is your favorite snack for dance events? Cold, crisp, green grapes
What do you like most about attending dance competitions and conventions? It’s exhilarating being on stage; I love the costumes and the build up before competing. I really enjoy meeting new people and being exposed to new choreographers at conventions. It’s fun to watch the choreographers perform at the showcase.
If you could be a choreographer for your studio, what song and style of dance would you choose for your dance? I would choreograph a lyrical dance to any Celine Dion song.
If you could go to lunch with any other dancer, who would it be and why? I would have wanted to have gone to lunch with Michael Jackson. I want to learn all his cool moves and how he makes everything so exact.
What is your favorite dance TV show? Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition (because I’m on it)
What did you enjoy most about being a part of Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition? I really enjoyed meeting Abby and all the other cast members. I also enjoyed learning about TV production.
What has Sarina been doing since she left Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition? Sarina’s Mom gave us an update: Since the show, she filmed “Platinum, the Dance Movie”; participated in Disney’s “Win, Lose or Draw” game show; received an award from our Assemblyman; won a national championship in Las Vegas as the highest scoring soloist; was featured in two of our local newspapers; danced at the Abby Lee Dance Company studio this summer; excels in school taking all honors classes; and will be going on tour with the cast members from Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition. She loves sharing her passion and love of dance.
What is your favorite dancewear? Lululemon!!!!!!!
What is your favorite dance moment? Probably my favorite dance moment was when I won Nationals in July and was asked to perform my solo in the showcase.
When you’re not dancing, what do you like to do? I have a lot of homework, so I don’t have much free time; but, I really love to shop and hang out with friends. I also love to go to Disneyland.
Sarina’s Safe and Sound Solo
Sarina’s Parents: Leo and Sharon Jassy
I knew my daughter loved to dance when she was five years old and watched another little girl perform a solo. Her eyes lit up and she begged us to let her dance a solo. She won her first competition at 5 years old!
My favorite part of the dance year is: Any time we can watch Sarina dance on stage; we’re happy!
My favorite costume she wore was a beautiful red lyrical costume with one lace sleeve that moved like the breeze when she danced. She wore it for her lyrical dance to “I Surrender”. The top was completely rhinestoned solid.
If I could choose a song and style of dance for my dancer, it would be: Dance Dad chooses Zombie by the Cranberries because it is a passionate statement about the tragedy of war. Because Sarina is a passionate dancer, we believe she would interpret this music well into dance movement. The intensity fits her style.
My favorite style of dance to watch is lyrical/jazz.
When I first became a Dance Mom/Dad, I didn’t know… anything! We had no idea there were dance competitions for children! We never realized the sacrifices, time and resource commitments it took to be and/or support a competitive dancer.
My favorite thing about being a Dance Mom/Dad is… watching our daughter perform. We love it! The secondary enjoyment is the traveling and meeting new people and seeing friends from other studios.
My best tip for fellow dance parents is… to look for a dance studio that has a good reputation and that feels comfortable for you and for your dancer because the studio becomes a home away from home and the people there are like family.
Aside from being a dance parent, I like to… spend time together as a family! We spend a lot of time at Disneyland.
Thank you Sarina and Sharon for sharing your dance experience with us! We hope you have a fantastic year.
