My dancer came home last week asking if I had seen Sia’s new video featuring Maddie from Dance Moms. I had not seen it yet and decided to watch it – not because Maddie was in it, but because I am a fan of Sia. I love the song “Chandelier” – it was featured last month on the April Jazz Song’s playlist.
I have to say, I love the video and I love seeing Maddie do something different. I have read comments on blogs and message boards about the song and it’s meaning and she is 11 etc., but I don’t see it as any different than being an actress and tackling a dark and disturbing role. I will be the first to admit, I like different and this is so refreshing after seeing her lyrical dances over and over with the ending pose where she looks, smiles, lets her hand flow down her face and saunters off the stage. Praise God, someone gave her something with some depth and she nailed it.
If you haven’t seen the video yet, check it out. The lyrics and the story are sad, but the dancing, for me, is great.
I’m not sure who cast this video, but it was marketing genius because every tween that was not familiar with Sia, is now.
What did you think of the video?
