Improv is a core part of the curriculum at my dancer’s studio. To say it is something she looks forward to every week is an understatement. Having said that, even when a dancer is comfortable with it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with its challenges. I am always impressed with the dancers that put themselves out there and give improv solos a try at dance competitions. This particular dance was recommended to me by a reader and I love how these dancers read off each other’s movements.
If you are not familiar with how improv dances work, here is how Nuvo Dance Convention defines a dance in the improv category.
Involves creating and executing movement spontaneously, without any premeditated movement. Dancers entered in this category will not know the song being played ahead of time. The DJ will simply select a song at random. Length will be no more than 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
