I knew my daughter loved to dance when: she was about 3 and every song that she loved she would make up a whole dance to it. Then we could be at a store and she would hear music and she would just dance. Half of the time I thought she had to go to the bathroom. I would be like “Alix do you have to go to the bathroom?” she would say “No Momma I’m dancing.” She does that now when we are out, but now she know how to do the right turns and such.
My favorite part of the dance year is the end of the year recital. Everyone has fun there to me by then even the new dancers have had months of practice and the competition teams already know the dances, and the new dance that her dance teacher teaches them is always beautiful. They have so much fun from the dressing rooms to backstage to the stage and coming off. I love it.
My favorite costume she wore was: I would have to say her solo costumes last year. It was simple, but different then any other it didn’t have the glitz and glitter. When she danced in it made me think my baby is growing up. It just gave her a soft look. It was for a lyrical dance the song was called “Things Aren’t What They Seem” by Keke Palmer the dance was called Miss You Mommy.
If I could choose a song and style of dance for my dancer, it would be: It is kinda hard to say. My daughter and I listen to so much music. I use to want her to do a lyrical dance to a song called “Dance Dance Dance” by Lykki Li or an art production piece playing The Beatles music.
My favorite style of dance to watch is: I do love them all that’s hard to pick, I can say I like when a dancer can turn beautifully.
When I first became a Dance Mom/Dad, I didn’t know… I didn’t know I would be so invested into it all. I didn’t think I would cry when I watch my daughter dance.
My favorite thing about being a Dance Mom is… helping out. Weather it’s backstage helping with make up, sewing costumes, making posters, making tutus, helping look for costumes, etc. Sometimes I do get tired but all and all I love it. I also like to see the rehearsals. Watching my daughter and all of her friends grow. I love the dance family they are a bunch of good people.
My best tip for fellow dance parents is… is to always be nice to everyone even the mean people in the dance world. Always let your baby know to never give up, or not let anyone tell them that they can’t do something. Also for those who oppose or don’t understand the dance world, they will never know how much hard work, tears and late nights, long drives, joy, laughter, happy moments, the friendship, and that look in your child eyes when they finally get something, and the money LOL that goes into it all of it. So don’t let them discourage you nor your child.
