Mia Michaels has always been a favorite in our house. I loved her from the first season. She is tough and she expects dancers to do their best and push themselves to be better – always. I love that.
By watching her, you can tell that she expects that sort of commitment, because that is the type of drive and commitment she gives to the dancers she is teaching. TV Grapeline just published an interview with Mia.
When asked about the one piece of advice she wished she had when she was dancing, she stated “Be inspired. Have healthy competition with the people around you but very much stay on your own tasks and stay focused and just continue to push yourself to the highest level possible.” This is something I try to impress on my own dancer. It really isn’t about anyone else. It’s about doing your best and pushing yourself to find your best.
She discusses not having a favorite piece of choreography and how she is hard on herself. She comments that she still does not understand the hype of the bench piece. Are you kidding me? Maybe it’s the fact that Travis was in the dance and he is amazing or that Heidi’s time on the show shifted from fantastic personality that is a ballroom dancer to take me seriously, I can do other things. I am not sure, but that dance for me is still one of the most memorable.
Here is the bench dance in case you missed it or *gasp* have forgotten about it.
Anyway, if you are a Mia fan, you will love reading the full interview and you will love the show tonight. SYTYCD is dedicating tonight to Mia’s past choreography on SYTYCD. It will be interesting. What dance would you like to see?
